Seed
Life can be hectic, and we often get caught up in the hustle and bustle of our daily routine. We rush from one task to another, always thinking about what we need to do next. And, in the midst of all this activity, we can easily forget to appreciate the little things around us that make life worth living.
Taking the time to slow down and appreciate those small moments in life can bring immense joy and fulfilment. It can be as simple as taking a few seconds to enjoy the warmth of the sun on your face or the sound of birds chirping in the morning.
Now that spring has arrived, you will have plenty of opportunities to let your senses drive this. Watching flower and tree leaves blooming. New smells. Birds chirping.
Making a habit of being present in the moment and noticing the small things around us can help us build resilience. When we focus on the present moment, we are less likely to dwell on negative thoughts and worries about the future or the past.
One way to develop this habit is to schedule a daily appointment with yourself to take a moment to appreciate your surroundings. Find a quiet place where you can sit and observe the world around you. Take a few deep breaths and focus on the present moment. Notice the sights, sounds, and smells around you. You may be surprised at how much you have been missing.
You can also hold a gratitude journal. Start easy, by writing down every day one thing you are grateful for. Whatever you want, whatever sparked even the smallest spark of joy in your life. When this has become a habit, write a few more every day. It's incredible how such a small and easy action can be salutary.
Remember, the little things in life are often the most important. So, take the time to appreciate them. It may seem small, but it can make a big difference in your mental health and overall well-being.
Example
To make sure I keep up with the habit of noticing little moments, I started practicing gratitude. And I now publish once a week a little something I am grateful for on Mental Seeds’ Instagram.
Bonus
This Seed can be used in combination with the first Seed I posted, Take at least one good thing out of every event. It’s a good habit to take time to notice the small things, whether you are enjoying what you’re currently doing or not. Especially if you’re not having a good time, this can help you put things in perspective or add a bit of joy in the moment.
