Feeling better vs. Getting better
Well-being 🌿 | Be honest with yourself 🫣 | #GettingBetter #Patience #Commitment
TL;DR
Self-improvement is a journey of growth, requiring time and patience for lasting change.
Feeling better doesn't mean reaching the end; true progress involves a deep transformation in perspective and habits.
Stay committed, celebrate progress, and be compassionate towards yourself during setbacks.
Seed
Before diving into this Seed, I want to say that if you are making efforts to get better (regardless of the improvement area you are working on), you can be proud of yourself. Keep going, don't lose focus on your goal, and enjoy the path.
When you embark on a journey of self-improvement you will notice that you notice positive changes. It's essential to remember that feeling better doesn't necessarily mean you've reached the end of your path. Growth involves a deep transformation in your perspective and habits, which takes time and patience.
Be mindful not to let go of your efforts as soon as you experience an improvement in your well-being. While feeling better is undoubtedly a positive sign, getting better is an ongoing process that requires consistent dedication. The journey towards getting better involves more than just alleviating symptoms.
Celebrate every moment of progress along the way and acknowledge the hard work you've put into your personal development. These moments of relief and joy are vital milestones that show you're moving in the right direction.
Stay committed to your journey of growth, even during moments of setbacks or challenges. Remember, healing is not always linear, and it's natural to encounter bumps along the way.
Take the time to reflect on how far you've come and the obstacles you've already overcome. Recognize the strength and resilience within you that have brought you to this point.
Embrace patience as your ally in this process. Understand that lasting change may take time, but each step forward is a meaningful achievement.
Above all, be compassionate towards yourself. Acknowledge that growth is a gradual process, and setbacks are part of the learning curve. Treat yourself with the same kindness and understanding you would offer to a friend.
Again, if you're on that path now, be proud of yourself, and know that I'm proud of you too.
Example
There was this period when my anxiety was giving me a hard time. So I decided to start again meditating regularly. After a week or so, anxiety symptoms started to fade. I was just so happy to see an improvement, I started to drop the meditation progressively, and generally be less careful about my mental health.
Guess who came back straight away?
That time I realised that building resilience regarding those feelings is not something that would happen so easily, and I should keep taking care of my mental health, even if the symptoms aren’t here.
Bonus
While writing this Mental Seed, I came across this book summary: Feeling Good by David D. Burns. There are some ideas I liked there, especially the part rising my awareness about the different cognitive distortions.
